Moving Forward

Well, Tia’s hair still looks awful this morning.  You were all so kind in your comments about her “fixed” hair, and I appreciate your sweetness, but it really does not look good.  In a couple of months, when the right side has grown out a little, I think it will be a little cuter.

I have attempted little-bitty ponytails today, which require massive amounts of hairspray and barretts to hold back the super short hair on the right side of her head.  I keep telling her she looks beautiful and she really is a doll, but that hair – oh my…

A friend and I are throwing a Mother’s Day (a week late) tea party on Sunday so I’m ramping up for a few days of baking.  Orange Cream Scones, fresh Strawberry and Lemon Curd, Fruit Salad with Spiced Syrup, Watermelon-Feta Salad, Spinach Tartlets with Cream Cheese Crust…who’s hungry?  And those are just the things I’m making – you should see my friend’s half of the menu.

I love tea parties.  I love the food and the leisure, the tea’s and the accessories.  I’m going today to pick out the tea’s and get the final ingredients.  I’ll post some pictures when it’s all said and done…I know you can’t wait.

Today is Sloan’s last day of preschool.  That’s very strange.  He will never be a preschooler again.  It feels right, of course.  He’s so big and so mature that I’ve sometimes questioned our decision to hold him back this year.  I know in the long run we’ll be glad, but for now he seems way too advanced for where he is.  I hope we can keep him challenged next year in kindegarten.  We’ll see.

And finally, can I just say that I love my husband?  He’s a good guy.  But I will tell you that the other night, when we were flipping the channels and we landed on Grease 2 and he started singing along to the songs – I was a little baffled.  After nearly 9 years, I’m still learning new things about him.  Grease 2?  Interesting…

  1. HEY! YOU~ I love your blog so much I gave you an award! Lovely blog award. Please stop by and pick it up!
    Thanks!

  2. My stomach is killing me and my eye make up looks horrific from the tears. This is, this is, this is just too much for me to take. I am so glad that photography is the cultural thing and that you have documented this event in the life of your children because oh my word. OH. MY. WORD.

Now I have to say, I have a really warped sense of humor. Warped as in I think it’s hilarious when people fall and trip. And it’s so bad, because if they’re hurt, ya know, that’s bad, but it just makes me laugh because it looks so funny. And your last post just has me in stitches and I feel so bad about it but those endorphin things that have been released into my system have just reenergized me.

On a serious note, we have had just the hardest week emotionally, and our church is grieving so much right now, it felt really great to laugh today. Like I haven’t laughed this hard in I don’t remember when. The first girl in 90 years is what I keep thinking about. Precious blonde cutie with the most Angelic Russian name. This is just priceless.

I am UTTERLY STUNNED. I just read your blog from yesterday. I think my jaw went paralyzed when I was reading about Sloan’s beautyshop day. Wow!! The headband gig looks great. Doesn’t that “mane and tail shampoo” make hair grow really fast?

  4. Will’s last day is next Wednesday. Makes me sad too that he will never be “little” again. Not that he is little I mean…the kid is almost as tall as me and weighs like 60 lbs! They will have so much fun in kindergarten! 🙂

  5. Oh a tea party? You make the best scones! I love scones! I love your idea…I may steal it. It’s ok since I’m half way across the country, right?

  6. Matt is a big fan of the Grease musicals, too, but that probably doesn’t suprise you. He would be singing right along with Lee. 😉

  7. Hope all your baking is going smoothly up there!! Open your windows so I can catch a wiff of all the goodies:)

  8. Sloan’s foray into the world of hairstyling–laughed and cried.
Your upcoming tea party–you HAVE to post recipes and list what your friend is making.

  9. Grease 2? You were pleased that he knows the songs from that one?! And you were so willing to share that with the world? Oh my!

The original Grease, though – yes, that one should be required memorization for music, lyrics, as well as choreography! And you are the perfect teacher for that one – after all, anyone who has danced to its music on-stage at The Fox certainly knows the material. And I was there to see that!!

    • No, no…Not proud – concerned, disturbed, scared – those are better words to describe how I felt. And yea, I’ am in full agreement with you – Grease 1 is a classic – Grease 2 – campy.

I totally forgot about dancing on stage at the Fox. Haha!

  10. Grease 2? Really? That’s a little too much. Singing in the Rain or even Moulin Rouge is okay, but Grease 2?
